It’s a broad, functional area of apartment blocks, shops, hospitals and main roads, with the Chang Phueak night food market as its most famous feature. That market deserves its reputation. It’s where you find the celebrated khao kha moo stall — braised pork leg over rice, served late into the night by a vendor in a cowboy hat — along with grilled meats, noodles and everything else. It’s a local market that visitors have found rather than a tourist market. **Character:** practical, unglamorous, well-connected. It’s quieter and greener than Chang Phueak, with more of a residential feel. The university’s influence is strong: cheap eateries, student apartments, print shops, bicycle traffic. Crossing on foot is less pleasant than in the Old City, and pavements are inconsistent. **Food.** Between the night market and the university-area eateries, this is one of the cheapest places in the city to eat well. A full meal for 50 THB is entirely normal. **Access.** You’re minutes from the Old City and ten to fifteen from Nimman by scooter.
